Louise Marie Harris

Louise Marie Harris, 96, of Cincinnati, Ohio and former Danville resident, died at 12:25 P. M. EST at Meadowbrook Care Center in Cincinnati, Tuesday, December 21, 2004. She was hospitalized on November 22 with complications from chronic pulmonary disease and was rehabilitating at the care center. She was born March 12, 1908 in Silverwood, Indiana, to German immigrants, Fred and Hannah Zeppelin Lange. She was married to Alvan A. Harris on March 22, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; he died in 1971. Together with her husband, she raised their son while building their home and managing the family-business nursery. Her six brothers and five sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Harris graduated from Cayuga High School in 1925, and the Lakeview School of Nursing in 1930. She practiced private and floor duty nursing until 1948 and resumed her work in 1972 through 1980. She enjoyed her nursing alumni association and missed only two reunions from 1930 through 2004. She was a member of Central Christian Church until moving to Cincinnati in 1999 to live with her son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. While in Danville, she also enjoyed her time with home extension and the many long-time neighbors and friends whom she cherished. In Cincinnati, she loved to read, tend the vegetable garden, listen to her grandchildren play the violin and help prepare side dishes for the family. She especially enjoyed playing board games and the crossword puzzles. She proudly referred her daughter-in-law as her own daughter. Her most memorable stories related to her horse-buggy rides in her farming community and surviving the Great Depression. Survivors include her son, Robert A. Harris, daughter-in-law, Sharon Floro and two grandchildren, Alphonse and Charlotte. Other survivors include nieces Joan (Bob) Craig of Zionsville, Ind., Sue (Jack) Bennett of Cayuga, Ind., Dorothy (Don) Paxton of Danville, Jean (Steve) Creasy of Terre Haute and nephews Ken (Pat) Granitz of Danville, Julian Shoaf of Kingman, Ind., and Alphonse (Linda) Stadler of Murpheesboro, Il. Other survivors include numerous great nieces and nephews; she was especially touched by kindness of great niece Gina (Brad) Beckner over the past year.
