Louis Navickas, 96, of Westville passed away at 11:40 p.m. Saturday February 4, 2012 at the VA Illiana Health Care System. He was born on February 20, 1915 in Westville, IL the son of James and Mary (Brinkus) Navickas. He married Monzelle Chumas on June 24, 1961 in Westville, IL. She preceded him in death on October 28, 1992. Survivors include his step-children; JoAnn Angier of Westville, Prudence (Ron) Fitzsimmons of Cary, N.C., and Judith (Gary) Poulson of Rock Hill S.C.; his step daughter-in-law, Evelyn Chumas of Westville; many step grandchildren; a special niece, Bobbi Jo Wilkes of California and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one stepson, Jon Chumas, and three brothers, Walter, Julius, and John. Louis was a graduate of Westville High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in Europe and was discharged in October of 1945. He then worked at the VA for three and half years. He worked at GE from April of 1955 until his retirement in January of 1979. John enjoyed working on and fixing things. He loved gardening and working outside in his yard. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Georgetown Cemetery. Father Tim Sauppe will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday February 8, 2012 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel.
