Louis "Louie" Cooke, 82, of Westville died at 7:28pm, Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at his daughter's home surrounded by his loved ones. He had suffered from CHF and Chronic Kidney Disease. Louie was born November 21, 1935 at home on Indiana Avenue in Westville, IL to John S. and Vera {Giuliani} Cooke, who had come from Italy. He was the youngest of five children and was raised in a large and loud Italian family. He attended St. Mary's, Edison, Central, McMillan, and Westville High School. He left school to work with his father, learning his trade in concrete work. On February 21, 1958, he married Alice Faye Moreman. They were married 51 years before she preceded him in death on August 27, 2009. Dad had worked at Davie's Meatpacking and Bullock Garage. He retired after nearly 50 years from Cooke Brother's Construction, with his brother, Alex. They were so well-known all around for their concrete finish and what a hilarious duo they were - "Ain't that right, Louie?!" So many people over the years have told stories about these two. What great work they did and how funny they were. Though Dad was the quiet one. On days with nothing to do, he'd chauffeur us around as he could point out jobs they'd done. He was proud of their work and I am proud he was my dad. Louie loved boating, water skiing, dancing with Mom, drinking coffee with his buddies, being outside in his yard, chatting with neighbors, and tinkering in his garage full of memories. To him, the hotter the day was, the better it felt. Always sitting on his patio listening to old country music. With a huge heart for animals, never letting any go hungry or without shelter. He was such a sweet man with a contagious grin. Dad was always there for us and always willing to help with anything he could while showing unconditional love and support. His granddaughter, Kiersten was his world. If you saw one, you saw the other. "Papa" taught her many lessons of life; things I'd never think of that she learned through him. She was "Papa's Little Angel." He leaves behind his daughter, Dalee "DeeDee" (Jim) Kennedy; his granddaughter, Kiersten Nicole "NeeNee" Kennedy; two brothers, Johnny Cooke & Alex (Evelyn) Cooke; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, & cousins. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Alice; two sisters, Louse (Juan) Pedio & Leona (Jim) Payne; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Cooke. We are going to miss everything about you, Dad. There are no words to describe the pain of our loss. As were his wishes, Louie will be cremated. No service will be held at this time. Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S. State St, Westville, assisted his family with arrangements. Please join them in sharing memories, photos, & videos through his Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
