Louis E. Stein, Jr.

Newport, Ind. - Louis E. Stein, Jr., 74, of Newport passed away at 12:17 p.m. EDT Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana.

He was born August 22, 1944 in Pasco, Washington the son of the late Louis E. and Geneva (Pollard) Stein, Sr.

Louis married Judy A. Allan on May 28, 1961 at the Newport United Methodist Church. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters: Lisa Stein of Newport, Indiana and Michele (Brian) Taylor of Brownsburg, Indiana; brother: Robert (Lynn) Stein of Covington, Indiana; two sister/brother-in-laws: Dixie (Dale) McMasters of Ames, Iowa and Linda (Ronnie) Baumann of Montezuma, Indiana, along with several nieces and nephews.

Louis was preceded in death by his sister: Marcia A. Stein and nephew: Jeffery Johns.

Louis worked from 1984 until his retirement in 2011 at Inland Container in the maintenance/mechanic department. He was a member of the Pipefitters Local 157, Newport United Methodist Church, Perrysville Unity Lodge #344 (50+ years) and was currently the acting secretary, Perrysville Chapter #302 O.E.S. (50 + years) and the Newport American Legion Post 184. Louis was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed reading, especially the Bible, teaching bible school, fishing, watching sports, carpentry and spending time with his family.

Funeral services: 3 p.m. EDT Sunday, June 2, 2019 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana with Masonic Services by the Perrysville Unity Lodge #344; Officiating: Rev. Jon Overbey and Robert Stein; Burial with Honors: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 1 p.m. EDT Sunday, June 2, 2019 until time of services at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Newport United Methodist Church, Parke/Vermillion Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
