Louella 'Irene' Evans

Danville Louella "Irene" Evans passed away peacefully at 2:30 AM on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Accolade Health care in Danville. She was born March 19, 1932 in Arcadia, NC to Sterling S. and Clara I. (Berrier) Poynter. She married Raymond Harold Evans on April 22, 1951 in Alvin, IL. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2005.

She is survived by three sons, Donald Ray (Rebecca J.) Evans of Bismarck, Larry Wayne (Debby) Evans of Flanagan, IL, and Roger Alan (Angie) Evans of Rantoul, IL; daughter-in-law, Patty Evans of Danville; three grandchildren, Mary Jean (Jim) Ashlock of Streator, IL, Michael Wayne (Kaitlyn) Evans of Bismarck, and Bryant Lee Evans of Danville; seven great grandchildren, Adi Ashlock, Miryssa Ashlock, Braxton Evans, Bailey Evans, Kaleb Fraizier, Tyler Evans, and Ryan Evans, and another great grandchild due in April; her twin sister, Lorene Payne of Danville; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Terry Evans; brother, Richard Poynter; sister, Bonnie Lou Meadows; and two infant brothers.

Irene was a graduate of West Lebanon High School and was most recently a member of Bismarck First Church of Christ. She enjoyed collecting antiques, especially lamps, bells, plates, and teapots. Irene also had a sizeable garden and spent many hours canning all of her vegetables.

A service to celebrate the life of Irene Evans will be held at 10 AM on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Bismarck First Church of Christ in Bismarck, IL. Pastors Bruce Thornsbrough and Jim Boudoris will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, IL. Additional visitation will be held from 9:30 10:00 AM prior to the service on Monday at the church. Donations made in Irenes name may be made to Bismarck First Church of Christ or Hanging Rock Christian Camp.
