Lorenzo Larry J. Farnsworth, 90, of Bismarck, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008 at North Logan Healthcare Center in Danville. Larry was born on December 22, 1917 in Hoopeston, Illinois, the son of Raleigh and Vera P. (Wallace) Farnsworth. He was raised in the Potomac and Henning area. Larry married Lola M. Goodner on August 8, 1946 in Danville and they celebrated 60 years together. She preceded him in death on September 8, 2006. He is survived by one brother- Frank Farnsworth of Springfield, Oregon; three sisters- Frances Frye of Penfield, Illinois, Lucille Sanders of Tempe, Arizona and Vera Cross of Danville; several special nieces and nephews; and a very special friend George Paquin of St. Joseph, Illinois. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, one brother- Ben Farnsworth, one sister- Martha Rutan and one infant sister. Larry attended Henning Schools. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp and later in the United States Army Corp during World War II from August 13, 1940 to June 28, 1945 serving in the European Theater, where he was awarded several campaign medals and ribbons. Larry and Lola operated a cattle farm near Cayuga, Indiana, for many years. After leaving the farm they moved to Bismarck. He then worked for several years at Steel Grip, Inc. until he retired in 1972. Larry was a loving husband, uncle and friend to many. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working in the garden. Larry was always a very handy person. A Celebration of the Life of Lorenzo Larry J. Farnsworth will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August26, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Paul Ziebart officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Johnson Cemetery following the service. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #210.
