LORAINE E. MARTOGLIO Loraine E. Martoglio, 94, of Oakwood, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010 at her sons home in Winchester, Kentucky. Loraine was born on January 25, 1916 in Evansville, Indiana, the daughter of Spearo and Clara (Wurtz) Medcalf. She married Charles Martoglio on January 4, 1936 in Covington, Indiana. He preceded her in death in 1988. She is survived by three sons- Gerald (Joan) Martoglio of Bloomington, Illinois, Larry (Lora) Martoglio of Winchester, Kentucky and Richard (Susan) Martoglio of Fairview, Kansas; one brother- Wayne Medcalf of Evansville, Indiana; one sister- Sharon (James) Hunter of Little River, South Carolina; six grandchildren- Pam Smith, Chris Martoglio, Dale Martoglio, Tony Martoglio, Bryan Martoglio and Rich Martoglio; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters- Jeanette Bosse and Charlotte Flaatten, and a brother- Glenn Medcalf. Loraine attended Bosse High School in Evansville, Indiana. She moved to Illinois after meeting her husband, Charlie. Her husband was a coal miner and carpenter and he built the house in Oakwood that the family lived in for over sixty years. She worked as a bookkeeper at Leverenz Electric and Windbreaker. Loraine began crocheting while in high school in Indiana. She began to crochet competitively over 40 years ago. Loraine won over 840 Fair ribbons from the Vermilion County Fair, Georgetown Fair, Eastern Illinois Exhibition and the Champaign County Fair. She leaves behind to all of the family some of her handy work. All the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have a sweater, afghan or Christmas stockings that she crocheted. She was also known for her doilies, baby blankets and baby clothes. When she wasnt crocheting Loraine enjoyed playing cards with her friend-Iota Hammon. She was also a long suffering Cubs fan and was known for her delicious apple pies. Loraine enjoyed life and loved a good fight. She laughed more than anyone and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Celebration of the life of Loraine E. Martoglio will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Oakhill Cemetery in Danville, with Pastor Bill Brown officiating. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery.
