Danville Lonnie Dennis Courson, 65, of Danville passed away at 10:44 pm on September 10, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. Lonnie was born on January 18, 1955 the son of Carl Oren Courson and Doris Ilene (Shaffer) Courson in Danville, IL. Lonnie married Paula Elliott on March 12, 1976 in Catlin, IL and she survives. Survivors include his wife, Paula of Danville, IL, his daughter, Neda (Matthew) Wolfe of Danville, his two sons, Darrel (Dawn) Courson of Buffalo, NY, and Donovan Courson of Urbana, IL. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Malia and Brayden Wolfe, one sister, as well as many special friends. Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lenny Dean Courson and an two infant sons. Lonnie was a member of the Vermillion valley vineyard Church in Danville as well as a life-long Mason. Lonnie began his professional career at Wyman-Gordon (Krupp Gherlach). After 20 years there, he changed careers and became employed with CellularOne as a Telecommunications engineer, where he remained until his retirement after 23 years. Lonnie enjoyed his work and took great pride in it. He will be sorely and irrevocably missed. Lonnie was a very loving, loyal man. He was devout in his faith and a born again Christian. His dedication to his family and his faith were unmatched by none except for that of his love he had for his wife of 44 years, Paula. Lonnie enjoyed the simpler things in life. From cracking jokes, playing a game of cards with good food and family, raceday Sundays or just going out to the water to drown a worm. His hobbies included building computers, dinner theater, listening to classical music and traveling the country in his R.V with his wife and 3 yorkies. Lonnie had a ora about him that you couldnt help but get caught up in his humor and charisma, to know him was to love him. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 18, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Jay Sorrell will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020 from 5-7:00 PM at the funeral home with Masonic Rites accored at 7:00 PM following visitation. It is kindly requested that those in attendance of the visitation or service wear a mask and practice social distancing. Memorials may be made in Lonnies memory to the American Heart Association or The Autism Community in Action (TACA).
