Lonnie Albert Massengale

Champaign - Lonnie Albert Massengale, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Champaign Urbana Nursing and Rehab in Savoy, IL, joining many of his family and loved ones including a son Bill. He was born on August 19, 1929 in Myra, TX to William Harrison and Ellen (Clark) Massengale, and he was one of 14 children. Lonnie married Betty L. Raney on October 28, 1950 in Champaign, IL. Lonnie is survived by his wife; children Linda Lou (Stan) Harsha of Dewey, IL, Lonnie (Marcia) Massengale of Hagerstown, IN, Rochelle (JR) Mantels of Urbana, IL, and Allan (Florinda) Massengale of Champaign, IL; grandchildren Maura (Javier) Alarcon, Chad (Tara) Harsha, Jason Harsha, Jill Massengale, David (Lora) Moore, Clinton (Heather) Moore, Eric Welch, Lauren, Taylor, and Jenny; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Lonnie enjoyed fishing, hunting, and metal-detecting. He loved visiting with family and friends over coffee, and he loved his home and lawn. Lonnie had many cherished pets over the years. He served active duty in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and he was a member of the American Legion of Urbana. A celebration of Lonnie's life will be held at 12pm on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil St. Champaign, IL 61820. Visitation will be held prior from 10am-12pm at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held at 12pm on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
