Lola Jean Brown

Lola Jean Brown, 95, of Champaign, peacefully passed away at home on Friday, March 1, 2024. She was born in Rising, IL on March 11, 1928, the daughter of James Franklin "Frank" and Mildred (Armstrong) Castor. Lola married the love of her life, Phillip H. Brown, on June 14, 1947. This year would have marked their 77th wedding anniversary.

Lola is survived by her daughters, Karen (James) Ward, Rebecca (Charles) Smith, and Paula Lee; grandchildren, Melinda Bickers, Melissa Yets, Melanie Catalano, Phillip Moore, Laura Collier, Andrew Bright, Samuel Lee, Anna Lee; sister, Carolyn McGaughey, 10 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Phillip; parents, Frank, and Mildred, brother, Russell Castor, sister, Phyllis Crooks, daughter, Kathleen (James) Simmons and great-grandson Chase Yets.

Lola graduated from Fisher High School class of 1946 and worked at J.M. Jones for 15 years. She was a homemaker and a true matriarch. She adored spending time with her ever-growing family and the bond and memories will forever be cherished.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Sunsets Champaign Chapel, 710 N. Neil St. Champaign, IL 61820 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Services will immediately follow visitation at 12pm with Rev. Julia Melgreen officiating. The burial will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign. Following services guests are invited to a gathering at Phillips Recreation Center, 505 W. Stoughton St., Urbana, IL 61801.

Memorial donations may be made in Lolas name to St. Jude Childrens Hospital or the Alzheimers Association.
