Lois H. Wright, of Fithian, passed away peacefully at 5:05 p.m. at the Hawthorne Inn in Danville, Illinois. Lois Smoot Huckin was born on August 15, 1919, the only child of Edward Ray and Nora Smoot Huckin. She was born on the family farm near Fithian. Lois attended Fithian Grade School and graduated from Oakwood Township High School in the Class of 1936. On December 7, 1940, at her parent's home, she married Leon A. Wright, who was to be her partner for the next 67 years. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2008. She is survived by her son Lee A. Wright of Tilton, her daughter L. Ann Wright (Michael R. Metzen) of Fithian, and four grandchildren, Shelley Prickett of Palm Beach, Florida, Brad A Wright of Tilton, Shanon Desy (Alain) of Andalusia, Alabama and J. Jade Smith of Fithian. She has five great-grandchildren, Taylor Payne and Madison Prickett both of Palm Beach, Florida, Cali Wright of Tilton and Olivia and Thomas Desy of Andalusia, Alabama. Lois enjoyed being a part Leon's large family and is survived by her three sister's-in-law; Margaret Jamison of Catlin, Nora (Cliff) Jolley of Fairmount and Kathryn McDonald of Martin, Tennessee. Lois began 40 years in civil service in 1944 at Chanute Air Force Base, where she worked for two years. The next 38 years were spent at the Fithian Post Office where she retired in 1984 as postmaster. Lois loved her time at the post office, helping the people in the community and being a part of their lives. She enjoyed being her husband's farming partner and helping with all she could on the farm. Lois and Leon were able to enjoy several winters in Florida with their friends and family. Lois was a lifelong member of the Fithian United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Fithian Woman's Club, and a member of the Hope Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a Farm Bureau member and belonged to the National Association of Postmasters of the United States. As a resident of Liberty Estates and Hawthorne Inn since 2005, Lois was blessed with friendship from residents and caregivers alike. The family would like to express their gratitude to those caring for her at both Hawthorne Inn Assisted Living and Manor Court, especially those associated with Passages Hospice who help guide Lois through the final days of her journey. She considered all to be a part of her extended "family". The family would like to also give a special thank you to friend and caregiver, Ruby Hope. A celebration of Lois's life will be held on Saturday, January 12th with a 2:00 PM service at the Fithian United Methodist Church with visitation being held one hour prior to the service. Grave side services will follow at Stearns Cemetery, Fithian, Illinois with Pastor Kim Dancey officiating. Sunset Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be a fellowship time for family and friends at the church after the burial. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Fithian United Methodist Church or the Vermilion County Conservation District.
