Lois Sykes

Lois Sykes, 89, of Westville, passed away at 10:30pm, Friday, October 8, 2010, at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home, Danville. She was born on April 8, 1921, in Georgetown the daughter of Charles and Fannie (Arthur) Sollars, both deceased. She was married to Charles Sykes on February 20, 1941, in Georgetown. He will miss her dearly. Others who will miss her include: her son, John (Sandra) Sykes of Danville; her grandchildren, Lori Sollars (Mike Sollars) of Catlin & Scott Aaron (Jessica) Sykes of Westville; her great grandchildren, Josh Sollars, Alyssa Grace Sollars, Tyler Sollars, Jacob Sykes, & Kaylee Mae Sykes; her sister, Mary Lou Carpenter of Las Vegas, NV; her brother-in-law, Chuck Reffett of Georgetown; her sister-in-law, Madeline Sykes of Georgetown; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by: her brother, Charles Jr.; a brother-in-law, Orville; a sister-in-law, Elaine; and daughter-in-law, Linda Sykes. Lois worked for JC Penney as a sales clerk and also at Carson Pire Scott. She was a member of First Church of Christ in Georgetown. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting as well as cooking & baking. She also enjoyed camping and traveling, she being the wife of a US Navy veteran. Most of all, Lois loved and cherished her family. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, October 15, 2010, at Danville National Cemetery. A visitation will be held 4pm to 7pm, Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, a Life Celebration Home, Georgetown. Memorial donations may be given in Lois name to American Heart Association or First Church of Christ in Georgetown.
