Lois Smith

Lois Alberta Smith, 93, of Danville, passed away at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2007 at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. Lois was born on May 17, 1914 in Danville, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Holden) Wonderlin. She married Virgil M. Smith on February 14, 1941 in Morganfield, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1963. She is survived by one son- Daryl of Mukwonago, Wisconsin; one daughter- Trena of Danville; one very special care giver- Jackie Tellier and several special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter- Carol Jane Smith, one sister and five brothers. Lois graduated from Diamond Grade School and Danville High School. After high school she attended Utterback Business College and later obtained her LPN certification from Lakeview College of Nursing. When Lois was younger she worked at Singers as a bookkeeper. She then worked as a private duty nurse and worked at Danville Care. After working at Danville Care Lois worked for several years at Lakeview Hospital, until she retired from nursing. Lois was also the secretary treasurer for Oak Hill Cemetery for several years. She was a member of Batestown United Methodist Church, where she served as a board member, lay leader, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, and President of the Womans Society. She was an active member in the Danville Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Christians Womens Club. Lois was very active and enjoyed volunteering for the Red Cross Grey Ladies, and on the election boards. She was an avid Cubs and Illinois Basketball fan. When she was able to, she loved to travel with her family and her friends. She enjoyed playing cards, loved animals, and enjoyed socializing with people. Lois will always be remembered as very much a people person. The Smith family would like to thank Vermilion Manor Nursing Home for all of the love and care that they have shown Lois over the last six years. A Celebration of the Life of Lois Alberta Smith will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Sunsets Community and Life Tribute Center (formerly Lakeside-Barrick Funeral Home) with Pastor Patti Wise officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 " 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Tribute Center. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
