Lois Maxine (Schofield) Edgington, Danville, IL, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 4, 2025, at Hawthorne Inn in Danville. Maxine looked forward to heaven to see her Savior. She was ready to exchange a body with chronic pain for a new one.
Lois Maxine was born on September 12, 1927, to Clyde and Lillian (Custer) Schofield in Vermilion County near East Lynn, Illinois. Maxine attended a small rural school, along with an older brother, Stanley, walking a mile and a half one way. Her family moved near Henning, Illinois when Maxine was a high school sophomore. She graduated from Henning High School in 1945, in a class of 12. One of her classmates, Gordon Lee Edgington, became her husband on February 7, 1948. They enjoyed 70 years of marriage before Gordon died on December 14, 2018.
Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, her parents, two brothers, Stanley and Don Schofield, two sisters, Judith (Schofield) McCullough and Joyce (Schofield) Penka. Surviving her is one brother, James (Deniece) Schofield, and many nieces and nephews. Lois has two daughters, Gayle (Jeff) Tuttle, Marietta, Georgia and Ann (William) Newton, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Also surviving are six grandchildren: Ben (Sara) Tuttle, Inverness, Illinois, Christy (Jeremy) Hurd, Green Acres, Florida, Katie Tuttle, Greenville, South Carolina, Ryan (Silvana) Tuttle, Maretta, Georgia, Eric (Cherith) Newton, Greenville, South Carolina and Kyle (CeAnn) Newton, Greenville, South Carolina. Maxine has 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Maxine was a bookkeeper following high school but spent most of her life as a homemaker. She loved to cook and sew. She was also faithful in full-time ministry with her husband, Gordon, for forty years. Maxine was a member of First Baptist Church in Danville.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 15, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. Officiating will be Dr. Jeff Tuttle, son-in-law. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donation may be given to the Mission Fund at First Baptist Church, 1211 N Vermilion, Danville, Illinois.
