GIFFORD " Lois N Earls, 93, was ushered into the presence of her Lord on Wednesday (June 11, 2008), 4:15 a.m., at Country Health Nursing Home. At Lois request there will be a private service at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet which will be conducted by her son, Pastor Gary Earls. Lois was born June 26, 1914 in Andres, IL to Franklin and Lydia Mueller in their modest home on the 2nd floor above a small general store. At eighteen Lois entered nurses training and became an RN having graduated from The School of Nursing of the Presbyterian Hospital of Chicago, May 12, 1935. During her career as a nurse Lois worked at Presbyterian as the head night nurse in maternity. She then took additional training at Childrens Memorial in Chicago. Lois served as a nurse in a tuberculosis ward, as well as giving care to pre-mature children. Finally she finished her career serving in a Public Health position working with the poor in her community doing home visits. She practiced that profession until she married Elmer L Earls, the son of Clarence and Marrietta Earls, on July 8, 1948. It was then they moved to Danville, IL where Elmer worked in management at Vermilion Lumber which had been purchased by her father. This they did until its closing in 1980. It was then Elmer retired. They lived together until his death in 1985. She is survived by her son Gary Earls, and his wife Patricia of Urbana, IL. Grandchildren Joshua, Jessica, Rachel, Hannah, and Abraham, as well as one great grand child, Kaleb. Lois was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Earls, her sister Dorothea Gregg, and an infant son Billy. Lois loved doing crochet, needle point, and quilts, as well as baking and art. She leaves a legacy of caring compassion, humility, and kindness. It was many times that Lois would drive miles out of her way to visit someone shut-in and forgotten by some but never by her. Lois life was crowned by the unconditional forgiveness that she always extended to others, never taking into account wrongs done. She loved life, her family, and most of all the Lord Jesus Christ with whom she now abides, rejoicing before his throne. Sunsets Community and Life Tribute Center of Danville handled arrangements. Email condolences may be sent to the family at: www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
