Oakwood – Lois “Jean” Carter, 93, of Oakwood, passed away at 5:55 PM on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Goldwater Care of Danville. She was born January 12, 1933, in Springfield, IL to Floyd Lynn and Irene M. (Gheen) Harris. She married her beloved Charles “Chuck” Carter on March 25, 1977, in Danville. Jean and Chuck enjoyed 38 wonderful years together until his passing on August 1, 2015.

She is survived by two children, Lynn (Jeff) Palmer of Oakwood and Jeff “Butch” (Jackie Miller) Brown of Port Charlotte, FL; stepdaughter, Marta (Mark) Fearon of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Whitney (Troy) O'Bryan of Newman, GA, Trevor and Derek Fearon of Denver, CO, And Tye (Amy) Pasquale of Bismarck, IL; and three great grandchildren, Landen and Adelyn O'Bryan and Emma Pasquale.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jean served as an administrative assistant at Bismarck Junior High School until her retirement and would continue her work afterwards with the school district through the superintendent’s office. Following Chuck’s retirement from Bismarck schools, he and Jean would take advantage of their time by traveling across the United States, Canada, and Europe, also enjoying the occasional cruise excursion together. Through the cold, Midwest months they loved the time they were able to spend wintering in the Orange Beach, FL and Gulf Shores, AL area. They could also often be found watching a variety of sports on TV.

Per her wishes, Jean will be cremated with a celebration of her life to be held at a later time. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL, 61834 has been entrusted with arrangements.
