Lody M. Dyszkewicz, 85, of Danville, passed away at 8:15 pm Sunday, September 18, 2011 at VA Illiana Healthcare in Danville. Lody was born on June 5, 1926 in Danville to Ladyslaus "Lody" and Alexandra (Djesuta) Dyszkewicz. He married Bette Lou Stanley on March 24, 1950 in Springfield. She preceded him in death on April 18, 1990. He later married R. Ann Farren on October 3, 1998 in Danville. She preceded him in death on February 16, 2001 in Florida. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one infant son- Charles Allen, one daughter- Jami Brasker, two brothers- Steve and infant brother John Dyszkewicz, and five sisters- Angeline Klukosky, Bernice Polak, Della Betkis, Frances Gallion and Esther Tatar. He is survived by two sons- Scott Dyszkewicz of Urbana and Steven (Susan) Dyszkewicz of Fairfield, California, one sister- Loretta Miller of Hegeler, one son-in-law- Merille Brasker, one sister- in- law- Norma Dyskievicz of Pennsylvania, five grandchildren- Candice King of Florida, Christopher Dyszkewicz of Danville, Nicole (Chad) McMahan of Covington, IN, Adam (Beth) Blazaitis of Danville, and Kory Dyszkewicz of Fairfield, CA, six great grandchildren- Carli and Alexander McMahan, Bryce Dyszkewicz, Shaelyn and Landon Diaz, Robert "Rabby Bear" Blazaitis, and many nieces and nephews. Lody was a 1944 graduate of Westville High School and also a member of the Vermilion Heights Christian Church where he was a secretary of the Christian Men's Fellowship and was a server. Lody retired from Jewel Food Stores in 1988 with 31 years as a meat cutter. In July of 1997 he began work part time as a meat cutter for Priceless Food Store where he retired in 2006. He was a veteran of the United States Naval Reserve in WWII serving in the Pacific Area aboard the Heavy Cruiser USS San Francisco which received the Presidential Citation. He participated in the Okinawa and Iwo Jima campaigns. He didn't know at the time of the Iwo Jima campaign that his late brother was with the Marines fighting on the island. He was a member of the Westville American Legion Post 51, serving as Past Commander. He also served as Past Commander of the Vermilion County Council of the American Legion. Lody was the Past President of the Westville Lions Club, was Past District Governor of District 1E Lions of Illinois, and a member of VFW Post 728 of Danville. In 1992 Lody was honored with being the Grand Marshall of the Westville Labor Day Parade by the Westville Lions Club. He was also a member of Westville School Board and Grand Knight of Georgetown Westville Council of Knights of Columbus. Funeral Services will be held at 4 PM on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Crematory, A Life Celebration Home in Danville with Pastor Rod Godley officiating. A Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Friday, September 23, 2011 at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial will take place at a later date. Lody had a compassion for helping those in need who are battling vision problems and diabetes. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made payable to the Lions of Illinois Foundation Endowment Fund and sent to Gary Delhaye, Westville Lions Club, 119 Mullen St. Westville, Illinois 61883.
