Danville - Lloyd “Ray” Spicer, 80, of Danville passed away at 4:23 PM on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in Hillsboro, IN surrounded by his family. He was born on March 22, 1933 in Georgetown, the son of Lloyd Raymond Spicer, Sr. and Ruth Mae Bush Spicer. He married Sue Buhoveckcy on September 7, 1973 in Tilton. She preceded him in death in 1997. He is survived by six children, Justin Spicer of Hillsboro, IN, Anne Spicer Huber of Catlin, Barbara (Paul) Casey of Perris, CA, Linda (Tom) Wolfe of Riverside, CA; Lloyd “Jr.” (Sonya) Spicer of Anaheim, CA, and Donnie Spicer of New York, NY; three brothers, Karrell Spicer, Danny Spicer, and Ronnie Spicer; three sisters, Pat Cherney, Eleanor (Danny) Smith, and Sally (John) Gallez; thirteen grandchildren, Leah, Deborah, Shem, Briten, Drake, Gavin, Kale, Kimberly, Nicole, Matthew, Timothy, Brandon, and Emily; and six great-grandchildren, Caden, Hope, Isabella, Jade, Troy, and Eli. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Spicer, and a sister, Shirley Spicer. Ray was a life-long “gung-ho” Marine, having served his country through the Korean War. He had been a Drill Instructor and founded the Korean War Veterans Association in Danville, serving as the first president. Ray was a member at Southside Church of the Nazarene in Tilton for over 40 years. He enjoyed being active with the church and had served as a Sunday school teacher and participated in several Work and Witness trips. Ray retired from the VA, but in his spare time loved to golf and collect coins. A service to celebrate the life of Lloyd “Ray” Spicer will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the Southside Church of the Nazarene in Tilton. Pastor Kent Pitcher will officiate. Burial will follow at Georgetown Cemetery where military honors will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Monday, December 16 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Memorials may be made to Southside Church of the Nazarene.
