Lloyd R. Lucas passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, July 23rd. Lloyd was born April 20, 1920, the son of Ori and Mamie Lucas. He was adopted and raised by Robert and Myrtle Lucas and grew up in Bismarck and Danville. As a young man, he served his country during World War II as a Lieutenant and C47 pilot in the Army Air Corp in Alaska. He married his wartime sweetheart and the love of his life, Evelyn Chambers in 1946 and returned to Danville to found Lucas Construction in 1948. Lloyds commitment to quality construction and individual architectural style can be seen in his homes and businesses throughout the community. Lloyds greatest joy was his love for his family and friends, and he cherished every minute he was able to spend with them, often traveling throughout the country to be near them. The cornerstone of his family, Lloyd never missed an opportunity to celebrate life with those he loved. Lloyd and Evelyn, who survives raised seven children; Barbara (Lucky) Somers of San Jose, CA., Linda (Robert) Agnew of Chesapeake, VA., Lloyd Lucas II of Danville, Kristy (Dan) Jeakins of Plano, TX., Mary Sue Lucas of Austin, TX., Jill (Matt) Jordan of Redlands, CA., and Jack Lucas of Danville. Loving grandpa to nineteen grandchildren; Brooke Johnson, Lindsay McCarty and Whitney Belfanti, John Fitzsimmons and Todd Fitzsimmons, Jennifer Schnell and Murphy Lucas, Courtney Wesson, Travis Jeakins and Chelsea Jeakins, Thor Yanko, Somer Zinnecker, Ashlynn Yanko and Heath Yanko, Shane Jordan, Justin Jordan, Taylor Jordan and Grant Jordan, Kyla Lucas and thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers: Ted Lucas of Truth or Consequences, NM, Dave Lucas of Valinda, CA and six sisters: Margarette Karakas of Alto Loma, CA, Irwin Anton of Truth or Consequences, NM, Betty (Don) Pursur Apple Valley, CA, Colleen Hart of Fort Mohave, AZ, Maybelle (Lester) Reed of Owasso, OK, and Aletha Mobley of Las Vega, NV. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a sister. Always an active leader in the community, Lloyd avidly participated on the Danville School Board, in the Jaycees, American Legion, VFW, avid bowler in the Elks league, Danville Home Builders Assoc. and Danville Country Club. He was a long time member of St. James United Methodist Church and the 3M Sunday school Class. He had a passion for sports and antique carpenter tools. Lloyd supported American Legion Baseball as a coach and team sponsor for many years. True to his profession, he collected one of the finest tool collections in the area and was a member of the Mid-West Tool Collectors Assoc. He will be remembered by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn, and family as a loving husband and father who imparted his values, wisdom, and humor throughout their lives. Many will also fondly remember Lloyd cruising in his red El Camino smoking a cigar with his faithful boxers by his side. June 27th from 5- 8pm at Sunset Funeral Home & Creamtion Center and his funeral service will be Friday June 28th at 10:30am also at Sunset.
