Lloyd Jon Allison, 86, of Danville, passed away peacefully at 7:08 PM on October 3, 2024 at Liberty Village in Danville, IL.
Lloyd was born on December 30, 1937 in Harvey, IL the son of Lloyd and Lula (Eldridge) Allison. He married Leann Hornor on November 23, 1961 in Bismarck, IL and she survives.
In addition to his wife, Leann Allison of Danville, IL, other survivors include his four sons, Mark (Janine) Allison of Steger, IL, Lloyd Noel (Toni) Allison of Westmont, NJ, Douglas Allison of Crete, IL, and Brian (Tandy) Allison of Bloomington, IL, five grandchildren, Chrys Allison, Adam Allison, Greg Allison, Stephen Allison, and Samara Allison, and one great grandchild, Margarites Kladis.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents and siblings - Merner Allison, Thomas Allison, Virgene Massari, Jerry Davis, Eileen Werner, and Darlene Pollock.
Lloyd was a devoted husband, dad, granddad, and great-grandpa who will be deeply missed.
Lloyd graduated from the University of Illinois in 1959 with a degree in Education. Later he would go on to get his Masters. He dedicated his career to shaping young minds. For 20 years, he instilled knowledge in students as a devoted teacher in Homewood, IL. He then took a brief hiatus from education, working as a realtor for several years. He decided to return to education and took a position as a junior high assistant principal for the next 2 years. Lloyd's passion for helping those who needed it most led him to Ada S. McKinley Libra School, where he spent 10 years working with students facing learning and behavioral challenges.
Lloyd's dedication to education extended beyond the classroom. He served as a supervisor for student teachers at Governor's State University, and even after retirement, continued to share his knowledge as a substitute teacher.
Lloyd and his wife, Leann, co-owned 2 Baskin-Robbins ice cream stores in Park Forest and Steger, IL.
Lloyd was deeply passionate about serving his community. He held positions on the Village Board in University Park, the Crete-Monee School District #201-U school board, and served as both a Trustee and Supervisor for Monee Township.
Lloyd never met a stranger and the family home was always open and welcoming. Whether it was extended family, friends, or those in need, Lloyd was there to offer support.
He was also a proud member of the Acacia fraternity.
Lloyd enjoyed reading, especially about history, staying informed about politics, and collecting a variety of things that interested him over the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM before the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lloyd's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Vermilion County Animal Shelter.
