Linis 'Torch' Prentice

Linis "Torch" Prentice, 90, of Danville passed away on July 17, 2017 at Carle Hospital in Urbana. Linis was born on March 28th , 1927 in Snicarte, IL, the son of Isaac and Rosa Mae Prentice. Linis later married the love of his life Gloria Thompson. She preceded him in death. Linis leaves behind two sons, Duane H. Prentice and Richard (Debbie) Prentice, two grandsons, Christopher and Evan Prentice and four great grandchildren. Linis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers and two sisters. After serving in WWII as a UDT (Frogman) in the United States Navy. He always did things for Veterans. He was a member of Danville American Legion Post 210, also the Forty & Eight, in which he served as Sous Chef de Chemin de Fer (Country Vice Leader). He also served over 12,000 hours as a volunteer at Illiana Health Care (VA). Linis was able to go on an Honor Flight that he really enjoyed. Torch worked for seven years for E.R. Bean Auto Supply, he then worked thirty one and a half years for Olin Corp and Flexel in Covington, IN. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Danville. In his younger days Linis was active in Red Mask, he loved going by the Knights of Columbus drawing numbers, he would go by the Gao Grotto and Dale's Place. Linis was a Cub fan and Clevland Browns fan as well. A Celebration of Linis's life will be held on Friday July 21, 2017 at 1pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 North Vermilion Street Danville. A visitation will be held on Thursday July 20, 2017 at the funeral home from 4 - 8pm. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park following the service. The family request that memorials go to Danville American Legion Post 210 in Torch's name.
