Oxford, Ala. - Lillian Bernardi, 95, of Oxford and formerly of Danville, Illinois and Grand Rivers, Kentucky, passed away at 3:14 p.m. CDT Friday, March 29, 2013 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital in Anniston, Alabama. She was born on December 3, 1917, in Vermilion County, Illinos to the late Jacob and Lennie(Johnson)Whitington. She married Robert Bernardi, Sr. on May 31, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1981. She will be missed by her children: Dr. Robert(Gretchen)Bernardi, Jr. of Edwardsville, Illinois, Carol(Robert)DeVerter of Cayuga, Indiana and Dr. Patrick(Sandy)Bernardi of Oxford, Alabama, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; Dr. Robert Bernardi III and his wife Dianne and their childen Robert "Grimm" Bernardi IV., Muriel and Dominic of St. Louis, Missouri; Christopher Bernardi and his wife, Bobbi and their children Miranda and Ariana of Alameda, California; Todd DeVerter and his wife Laura and their children Trebor and Courtney of Cayuga, Indiana; Philip Bernardi, Jr. and his wife Laurie and their children Kameron and Sam of Danville, Illinois; Connie Chew and her husband Dennis and their daughter Hannah of Cayuga, Indiana; Robinlyn Hegg and her husband Jeff and their children Kaila and Gage of Covington, Indiana; Paul Bernardi and his friend Todd of Tilton, Illinois and Jacob Bernardi and his wife Trish of Blackstone, Illinois; Elizabeth Bernardi and her husband Andrew Burk of Eastaboga, Alabama and Greg Bernardi of Oxford, Alabama; a sister, Leona Haworth of Raleigh, North Carolina. Lillian was preceded in death by her son, Philip Bernardi, Sr.; infant twin great granddaughters; sister, Elva Blakney and brother, Bernard Whitington. Lillian was a 1936 graduate of Henning High School and a graduate of Danville Beauty School. She was a co-owner with her husband, Robert, of the former East Side Market in Danville, Illinois and the Barkley Dam Motel in Grand Rivers, Kentucky. Lillian enjoyed sewing, making quilts, was an avid reader and enjoyed watching NASCAR and her favorite drivers Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Graveside services and burial: 3:30 p.m. CDT Friday, April 12, 2013 at Stearns Cemetery in Fithian, Illinois; Officiating: Dr. Patrick Bernardi. Donations may be made to the Parke-Vermillion Humane Society, 1884 South State Road 63, Hillsdale, Indiana 47854, because of her love of animals or to the Salvation Army, 855 East Fairchild Street, Danville, Illinois 61832. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana in charge of arrangements.
