Lillard Laddy Andrew Stines, 80, of Danville, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. Laddy was born on February 10, 1925 in Danville, Illinois, the son of Peter and Lyndall (McIntosh) Stines. He married Joan Marsh on January 25, 1976 in Bloomington, Illinois. She survives. He is also survived by five daughters- Shelia (Keith) Steelman of Catlin,, Karen (Cliff) Rayment of Alameda, California, Jeanette Jeannie (Gary) Hettmansberger of Danville, Polly Jo (Brad) Canfield of Riverside, California, and Melissa (Jim) Pratt of Catlin,; two brothers- Lynn (Coleen) Stines of Westville and Bruce (Becky) Stines of Elgin, Illinois; two sisters- Amelia Fletcher of Grape Creek and Elda Smothers of Springfield, Illinois; seven grandchildren- Chad (Nickey) Hettmansberger of Savoy, Illinois, Jodie (Michael) Wilson of Perrysville, Indiana, Mark (Amber) Hettmansberger of Catlin,, Julie (Robert) Emery of Fishers, Indiana, Miranda (Rob) Whitlock of Riverside, California, Joseph Andrew Pratt of Catlin,, and Sam Pratt of Catlin; nine great grandchildren- Kaytlyn, Kylie, Cole, Cade, Anne Marie, Alison, Lexi, Blake, and Teddy; and several nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. Laddy has now entered into his Heavenly rest. II Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, not only to me, but for all who have longed for His appearing. Laddy graduated from Westville High School. He served in the United States Army from 1943-1946 serving in World War II, where he stormed the beaches of Normandy. He later reenlisted in the Korean War serving from 1953-1956. Laddy worked at General Motors in the laboratory for 30 years until he retired in 1985. After retiring from General Motors he went to work at St. Elizabeths Hospital working there for 14 years in the central supply until he retired in 1999. Laddy was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Danville. As a member of the church he sang in the choir. He enjoyed feeding and watching birds. Laddy loved music and greatly enjoyed playing the organ, concertina, violin, and the French harp. He also enjoyed collecting all types of coins. Laddy also enjoyed bowling where he won several trophies. He was truly a very talented man in anything that he did. A celebration of the life of Lillard Laddy Andrew Stines will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2005 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Rev. Dennis Rodgers officiating. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oakridge Cemetery in Catlin. Full military rites will be performed at the cemetery by American Legion Post #210. Memorials may be made to the Assembly of God Choir or to the Christian Academy.
