Danville – Lewis L. Lockhart Jr., 80, of Danville, passed away at 9:10 PM on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at his home. He was born on October 13, 1945, in Danville to Lewis L. Lockhart Sr. and Ramona H. (Schultz) Lockhart.
He is survived by three siblings, Rick (Liz Helck) Lockhart of Noblesville, IN, Tom Lockhart of Noblesville, IN, and Kathy (Andy) Petrella of Grand Prairie, TX; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Judith Lockhart.
After graduating High School, Louie spent most of his career as a machinist at Hyster, later NACCO and Hyster-Yale, until his retirement. When he was able, he enjoyed a variety of activities and was involved in many different pastimes. He could often be found out on the water boating, fishing, and even SCUBA diving, or on dry land, driving around on a motorcycle or snowmobile. Sports were also a big part of his life, especially bowling which he enjoyed for a number of years. His biggest passion, though, was Corvettes, and he rarely missed an opportunity to look under the hood when he encountered one.
A service to celebrate the life of Lewis L. Lockhart, Jr. will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service on Thursday, also at Sunset in Danville.
Please join Lewis’ family in sharing memories, photos, and videos of his life through his tribute wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
