Lewis H. Turner, 87, passed into the arms of the Savior at 8:30 a.m. on April 18, 2017 from his home in Covington, Indiana surrounded by family. Lewis married the love of his life, Norma L. (Mast) Turner on November 19, 1950. She survives. Lewis was so proud that they had been married for over 66 years and never hesitated to tell everyone. Lewis was a wonderful Dad to his son, Lewis S. (Steve) Turner of Covington and his daughter Lonette L. (Lonnie) Turner of Tempe, Arizona, who survive. Lewis was a loving Papaw to his granddaughter Amanda (Gabe) Shoaf, Washington, Indiana, great-grandson, Nathan Shoaf, and granddaughter Allison (Jeff) Hardison, Aliso Viejo, California. Lewis loved his brothers and sisters, who survive. Arlene Snyder, Perrysville, Indiana, Clarence (Reva) Turner, Covington, Annabeth Stark, Danville, Illinois, Max Turner, Lockport, Illinois, Sonna (Ronnie) Crowder, Covington, Naomi (Roy) Hershberger, Covington and Mary Lou (John) Morris, Kingman. He is also survived by a grandson, Wes, an aunt, cousins, and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Laura Turner, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Laurence and Dorothy Mast, his sister Mossie Kate Turner, his brother-in-law Russell Stark, his sister-in-law Joyce Turner, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Russell John and Edna Owen. Lewis was a farmer through and through. He stepped off a tractor for the last time at the age of 80. He worked with his good friend Kevin Kemna, Danville, for years and continued to check on things at the farm after he retired. On any given day, you could find Lewis at Brannins in Rileysburg, having coffee with and giving farming advice to the local farmers. If he had any extra time, you would find him on a golf course always chasing that illusive hole in one. He had mean skills with a driver and after a great drive, his smile was infectious. In the Fall through March he was all about college basketball, especially the Indiana Hoosiers. He was also a big fan of Cardinals baseball. A celebration of life service for Lewis will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. EST at Sunset's Covington Chapel 420 3rd Street Covington, IN 47932. Visitation will be held from 3-5 PM prior to the service. The family asks if flowers are being sent please send silk due to his wife Norma being allergic.
