Leta Mccormick Orlando

Leta O’Connor McCormick Orlando passed away on September 18, 2024, in Issaquah, Washington. She was 94 years old. She was born on February 19, 1930, to Leonard and Viola O’Connor in Kankakee, Illinois. Leta was raised in Kankakee, along with her two brothers, and attended Catholic grade school and high school. After graduation, she attended the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois.

Leta married Thomas C. McCormick on August 8, 1953, and after spending the first few years of their marriage in Kankakee and Chicago, they moved to Danville, Illinois, where they raised their family. In Danville, Leta became an active volunteer at St. Paul’s Catholic Church and Grade School, Schlarman High School, and United Samaritans Medical Center. In 1987, Tom became co-owner of Interstate Printing and Publishing, and Leta served on the Board of Directors as Corporate Secretary.

Upon retirement in 1994, Leta and Tom moved to Sun City, Arizona. Tom passed away in 1997, after nearly 44 years of marriage. In Sun City, Leta volunteered at Boswell Hospital and the Sheriff’s Posse of Sun City, working in conjunction with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. Leta served in various leadership positions at the Posse, including being elected to and serving as Commander in 2004.

Leta married Joseph R. Orlando on April 24, 2015, and they enjoyed seven years of marriage before Joe passed away in 2022. Leta then moved to Issaquah, Washington.

Leta was also preceded in death by her brothers: Dale and Leonard O’Connor. She is survived by her children: Mary McCormick Orff (Patrick) of Bloomington, Illinois; Jeff McCormick (Susan) of Lakeville, Minnesota; and Shannon McCormick of Bellevue, Washington. Also surviving are her three grandchildren: Maggie Kelly (Andy), Lauren Neugebauer (Shawn), and Ryan McCormick (Shannon), as well as nine great-grandchildren, all of Minnesota.

Other survivors include: sister-in-law Barbara O’Connor of California; brother-in-law and sister-in-law George and Eleanor McCormick, respectively, of Arizona, and their family; and stepdaughters Julie Cortes (Al) and Linda Green (Paul), also of Arizona.

Leta was a voracious reader and a dedicated fan of NFL football, her favorite teams being the Chicago Bears, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Her main priorities in life were her faith, her family, her friends, her country, and having fun. Leta loved life and will surely be missed and fondly remembered. Her legacy will be her continuous and everlasting love for all her family, especially her children.
