Leslie Roger Cornwell Sr., 77, of Danville passed away at 12:08pm Thursday March 3, 2005 at his winter residence in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. He was born May 4, 1927 in Danville, Illinois, the son of Fred and Cora (Allen) Cornwell. He married Wilma Lou Vacketta on March 2, 1952 in Georgetown, Illinois. She survives. Leslie is also survived by one son Leslie Roger (Eva) Cornwell Jr., of Westville, two daughters, Cynthia Lou (Frank) Jones of Danville, and Kathy Jo (Terry) Bowen of Farmer City, Illinois, two Grandchildren, Robert Leslie Cornwell and Hannah Lynn Bowen, two step-grandsons Mark and Tim Jones, four step-great grandchildren, three brothers, Delbert (Marie) Cornwell of Westville, George (Alice) Cornwell of Vermilion Grove and Frank (Carolyn) Cornwell of Georgetown, and three sisters, Betty (Marvin) Bonebrake and Edna Stal, both of Georgetown, and Frances Kiger of Williamsport, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Eunice Hall and Ruth Gerchak. Leslie worked for the C & EI railroad shops as an electrician for 20 years and retired from the IBEW Local 538 after 20 years of service. He also drove a school bus for the Westville School District. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Navy as a company clerk on the U.S.S. Maryland. He enjoyed fishing and square dancing. He was a Cubs, Bears and Illini fan. Leslie was a member of the Frontier Twirlers Square Dancers, Masonic Lodge 154 of Georgetown, Scottish Rite of the Valley of Danville, Danville American Legion Post 210. He also was a member of Danville Church of Christ where he was a choir member for many years. He very much enjoyed making noodles with the ladies for the annual church chicken and noodle dinner. He and his wife treasured the winters in Florida. Leslie dearly loved his family.
