Leroy J. Moore, 90, of Oakwood, passed away at 7:50am, Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at his home in the presence of his loving wife. He was born on July 23, 1925, in Winchester, IN, the son of Rollie and Gladys {Allen} Moore. He was united in marriage to Bertie May Bradley on July 29, 1947, in Ogden, IL. She will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by: his sons, Jim (Jeanie) Moore of Catlin, IL, Jeffrey (Linda) Moore of Charleston, IL, & Brian Moore of Urbana, IL; his daughter, Rebecca Hillis of Lake Village, IN; his grandchildren, Amber Gary, Dustin Gary, Cory Hillis, Grady Moore, Tyler Moore, Jenni Canady, Ryan Cary, Natalie Moore, Kristin Moore, Jennifer (Chad) Clinton; his eight great grandchildren; and his sister, Louise Howell of Farmland, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, and a grandson. Leroy was a proud Veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII 1943-45 as a member of the SeaBees. He retired from General Motors Tilton Foundry in 1989. He was a member of the Oakwood Christian Church, Oakwood American Legion, and served as member, as well as past president of the Oakwood School Board. He had also served on the Oakwood Village Board and coached little league & Pony league baseball. Leroy enjoyed going fishing, horseshoe pitching, & reading. He was a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family. A celebration of Leroy's life will be held at 11:00am, Friday, May 13, 2016 at Sunset's Oakwood Chapel with Dennis Divan officiating. Visitation will be held 3pm-7pm, Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the funeral home and again one hour prior to his service on Friday. He will be laid to rest in Stearns Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #210. Memorial donations may be given in his name to Oakwood Christian Church or Oakwood Youth Baseball Program.
