Leota Louise Meyer, 99, of Danville, Illinois, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away at 12:33 a.m., Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville. She was born on July 10, 1909 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of Archie and Marie Golin. She married Lester Meyer in 1933. He preceded her in death on September 5, 1958. Leota is survived by her son- Mark L. (Katie) Meyer of Danville, Illinois; three grandchildren- Carmen Bailey and Lee Ann Meyer both of Indianapolis, Indiana and Brian (Kelly) Meyer of Plainfield, Indiana; five great-grandchildren- Alicia, Mark, Mara, Sarah and Bryson; and two great-great grandchildren- Preston and Peyton. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, brother- Spencer Golin and one great-great grandson- Paxton. Lester, Leota and Mark managed and operated a farm in the Five Points area. The three of them worked side by side planting and harvesting crops, tending to dairy cows, hogs and chickens. It was not common to see Leota driving a tractor or a grain truck whenever needed. After Lesters death, she became a Lab Technician for the John Sexton Food Company for 14 years, retiring in 1972. Over the years she did extensive volunteer work for St. Johns Church visiting many nursing homes. She and a small group from St. Johns also visited Wishard Hospital on Sundays for many years to take wheel chair patients to chapel services. Leota loved her family and grandchildren and devoted all the time she could to be with them. She was affectionately known as Mamoo. She loved people and people loved her. A Celebration of the Life of Leota Louise Meyer will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, with Pastors Phillip Krupski and Frank Machina officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Evangelical Lutheran St. Johns Cemetery, Five Points, Indiana. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Johns Lutheran School, 6630 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208.
