Leonard A. Karuzis Sr., 75, of Westville passed away at 7:31 a.m. Thursday December 24, 2009 at Provena USMC Logan Campus. He was born on September 4, 1934 in Westville, IL the son of Andrew and Julia (Galius) Karushis. He married Ruth Coan on June 16, 1956 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Westville. She survives. Survivors include his two sons, Michael (Tina) Karuzis of Catlin and Lenny (Lisa) Karuzis of Westville; his three daughters, Margaret Karuzis of Westville, Rose Karuzis of Westville, and Ruthie (Mike) Crawford of Danville; fourteen grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; one brother, Andrew (Joyce) Karushis of Veedersburg, IN; and three sisters, Alberta (Dean) Blakeney of Danville, Christine Karushis of MO, and Marianne Moreman of Westville. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Barbara Karuzis, and one sister, Sylvia Nagrodski. Leonard worked at GM for three years, was in the Air Force for four years, before working at HeatCraft for 38 years. He was a member of the St. Marys Catholic Church where he was an usher and a member the St. Marys Rosary Group. He was a Democratic Committeeman for the Georgetown 5th Precinct. He loved painting shirts for the kids around Christmas time He was an avid Cubs, Notre Dame, and Bears Fan. He really enjoyed working in his vegetable garden every year.
