Cayuga, Ind. -- Leonard A. Dowers, I, 82, of Cayuga, passed away at 12:27 a.m. EDT Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Union Hospital Clinton in Clinton, Indiana. He was born June 26, 1928 in Cayuga, Indiana, the son of the late Ernie and Vernie Nave Dowers. He married Mary Bush on July 11, 1953 in Howard, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Dennis(Linda)Dowers of Lewisburg, Tennessee; Denise(Frank)Dixon of Georgetown, Illinois and Lenny(Missy)Dowers of Cayuga, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Dwayne(Kasey)Dowers of Chapel Hill, Tennessee; Alvin(Teri)Dowers of Columbia, Tennessee; Matthew(Amber)Paige of Holden, Massachusetts; Derek(Sadie Taylor)Paige of Cayuga, Indiana; Manda(Terry)Paris of Catlin, Illinois; Rylee and Teegan Dowers both of Cayuga, Indiana; one step granddaughter, Tracy(Chris)Miller of Fairview Heights, Illinois; five great grandchildren, Daelyne and Baylee Dowers both of Chapel Hill, Tennessee; Mason and Cambrie Paige both of Holden, Massachusetts; Zyaan Taylor of Cayuga, Indiana; two step great grandchildren, Collin and Cameron Miller of Fairview Heights, Illinois; Nephew, Darryl Copsy of Sacramento, California; Very Special Grandpa to, Skylar Dowers; Kylee and Keri Heidbrider all of Cayuga, Indiana. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Leonard was a Korean War veteran serving with the United States Army. He was an auto mechanic formerly working at McMasters in Georgetown, Illinois; Clark's Chevrolet in Cayuga, Indiana; Newport Army Plant in Newport, Indiana and the Cayuga Street Department. Leonard was a Lifetime member of the Cayuga American Legion Post #263 and a former member of the Pipefitters Local 157 in Terre Haute. Leonard enjoyed fishing, hunting, racing, camping and mowing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren. Funeral services: 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, September 4, 2010 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Jack Holycross; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana with graveside military rites by the Cayuga American Legion Post 263; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Friday, September 3, 2010 at the funeral home.
