Danville- Leona June Kentner, 82, of Danville, passed this life on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville. Leona, known to everyone as June, was born June 24, 1929 in Blount Township, Illinois, the daughter of Carl J. and Onda (Brown) Isley. She married Sidney Warren Kentner on November 23, 1947 in Bismarck. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1982. She is survived by two children, a daughter, Mary Ann (Joe) Martin, of Danville, a son, Thomas (Susan) Kentner of Bismarck, three grandchildren, Rebecca Martin of Danville, Mica (Jason) Erwin of Bloomington, IL, Alex Kentner of Bloomington, IL, as well as two great-grandsons, Jackson and Tate Erwin. June is also survived by her sister, Jean (Robert) Strawser and sisters-in-law Pat Kentner of Bismarck, Betty Winter of California, and Mary Jane Moburg of Chicago, and her dear friend Cheryl Graves of Indiana. Her parents, husband, son-in-law, two brothers, Gorman and Owen, and sister Shirley Ann preceded her in death. June, "Junebug" as she was affectionately known, graduated from Bismarck High School in 1947 and worked at R & S Printing, St. Elizabeth Hospital as an emergency room clerk and retired from United Samaritans Hospital. She was a member of the Bismarck United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Group and she dearly loved her church friends and family, many of whom visited her without fail through her years at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. June worked alongside her husband and son on the family farm and enjoyed cooking homemade chicken and noodles and her delicious chocolate sheet cakes. She loved being a busy farm wife and chief babysitter to her grandchildren. The family greatly appreciates all the loving care given to June during her stay at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, as a former health care worker, June was so grateful for the wonderful nurses and technicians at Colonial, especially Sharon Reed who helped her do things that were important to her. A celebration of June's life will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, at Bismarck United Methodist Church in Bismarck, Illinois with pastor Beckie Laumeier officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. June will be laid to rest at Gundy Cemetery near Bismarck, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Bismarck United Methodist Church and Provena Cancer Center.
