Danville - Leona A. Carter, 91, of Danville passed away peacefully on April 6, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. Leona was born on December 31, 1925 in Westville, Illinois, the only daughter of Leonard and Elise (Champommier) Parmentier, they both immigrated from France. In August 1945 Leona married Robert E. Carter, they had three daughters, Sandy (Dave) Cunningham of Danville, Sharon (Doug) Finney of Peoria, Arizona and Debbie (Randy) Sickmeir of Evansville, Indiana. She has six wonderful grandchildren, Brad (Amy) Cunningham, Chris (Hadeel) Cunningham, Kamie (Chris) Finney-Ulery, Scott (Sheli) Finney, Charlie (Denah) Sickmeir and Amanda (Nick) Sickmeir-Hale; and seventeen beloved great-grandchildren. Leona also had a special niece, Karen (Garnett) Parmentier-Miller of Westville, Illinois. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, brother F.C. "Batesse" Parmentier, his wife, Maxine, her son-in-law, Dave Cunningham and her special friend of many years Bill Smith. Leona was a 1944 graduate of Westville High School. Following graduation, she was employed at the family business, Westville Motor Sales. Mmre, as she was known by her family, had a zest for living life to its fullest; dancing, being with her friends, following the Cubs, Bears and Fighting Illini, fun family gatherings and the love she had for her daughters and their families. The family wishes to thank her physicians; Dr. Rajjoub Mohannad with Danville Polyclinic, Dr. Stanic with Carle Cancer Center in Urbana and Karen Davidson, RN with Carle Hospice Home Care; also, her caregivers at home, Linda Link and Lynn Hise. A celebration of Leona's life will be held at 11 AM, Friday, April 14, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, IL with Matthew Sickmeir officiating. Visitation will be 9-11 AM prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Carle Hospice Memorial Fund at 611 West Park Street, Urbana, IL 61801 in Leona A. Carter's name.
