Lenny D. Carpenter

Leonard “Lenny” D. Carpenter, 82, of Danville passed away at his home on March 10, 2026, at 5:27 PM with his family by his side.

Lenny was born on April 23, 1943, the son of Leonard “Pinky” and Kathryn (Huff) Carpenter in Danville, IL. He married the love of his life, Claudia J. Swartz, on February 29, 1964, in Danville, IL and she survives.

Lenny is survived by his wife, Claudia Carpenter of Danville, IL, his children, Scott (Penney) Carpenter of Cayuga, IN and Kim Rutledge of Champaign, IL, his grandchildren, Kyle (Andrea) Carpenter, Tyler (Crissy) Carpenter, Caleb (CeCe) Carpenter, Charlene (Heather) Walters, Colby (Luke) Nelson, Clayton (Nallely) Barton, Colton (Lauren) Barton, Jimmy (Taylor) Rutledge, Andy (Morgan) Rutledge and Katie Williamson, and his great grandchildren, Lenny, Clayton, Westen, Maddie, Ashtyn, Mariana, Mateo, Margot, Joanna, Vivian, Rowan and Leah.

Lenny is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Larry Carpenter, son-in-law, Randy Rutledge, granddaughter-in-law, Sarah Carpenter, and grandson-in-law, Cody Williamson.

Lenny was a retired Tool and Die Maker and a huge Chicago Cubs fan. He loved spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events. Lenny was the kind of guy who could fix anything and everything, and he shared his talents and knowledge with all the kids. If something needed fixed, they always knew they could call Grandpa!

Lenny and Claudia enjoyed many vacations with their friends and family through the years, and hanging out in the garage with his neighbors was one of his favorite pastimes.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 PM on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Cary Disney will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the funeral home in Danville, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made in Lenny’s name to the American Cancer Society.
