Lee 'Buzz' M. Sherman

Lee M. "Buzz" Sherman, 89, a lifelong resident of Georgetown, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022, at home surrounded by family. He was born on June 3, 1933, the son of Thomas and Myrtle Sherman. Lee became interested in electronics at a very young age and built a workshop in the basement of his parents home. His nickname came from the comic strip "Radio Buzz," because Lee was always tinkering with radios. Lee entered the U. S. Air Force and became a weatherman at Chanute Air Force Base, where he sent the weather to Mr. Roberts of Channel 3 News, sometimes the same report three days running. He graduated from the University of Southern Illinois in 1960, at which time he returned to the Georgetown area with his family. He was active in the Illiana Section of the Instrument Society of America through his job at Tee-Pak, Inc., where he worked as Maintenance Supervisor for thirty years. Weather watching remained an interest for the rest of his life. He had barometers in every room of his home and woodworking shop, religiously measured the rainfall, and watched the clouds for weather patterns. Lee was a proud Thirty-Second Degree Mason. Summertime when his girls were young, Lee would set up a swimming pool for them to play in, or a badminton net for the whole family to enjoy. At night, the family played board games and put together giant puzzles before the girls were tucked in with a bedtime story. He enjoyed fishing, and family vacations revolved around that passion. Lee taught each of his daughters how to bait a night crawler on a hook, although two out of three of them resisted. Upon retirement, Lee picked up woodworking as a hobby. He entered some of his creations in the Georgetown Fair and received several blue ribbons and three Grand Champion ribbons. Lees loving wife, Roseanne, supported him in his hobby and assisted him in entering his work in the fair. He met with his friends for coffee and lies every morning at McDonalds. Lee also spent hours doing what he called "visiting the sick," calling on friends in need. He was a big Chicago Cubs fan, as is Roseanne, and they enjoyed watching the Cubs lose on TV. Lee married the love of his life, Roseanne Seripin, in October of 1958 in Marion, Illinois. His devotion to his wife, Roseanne, guided his way of life. Lee leaves daughters Janet R. Thorlton of Danville, Nancy (Rad Drew) Lee of Indianapolis, IN, and Teresa (Raymond) Morrison of Batavia. He leaves three grandsons, Bradley W. Lee, G. Alexander Thorlton, and Christopher L. Thorlton, and great-granddaughter Maddie Drew. Besides his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Manganello, and his brothers Donald, Caroll, and Lynn Sherman. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and administration of OSF Hospice for their daily love, care, and concern, as Lee flew into the arms of Christ. A Visitation will be held 10:30am to 12:00pm with a celebration of Lees life at 12:00pm (noon), Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois 200 E.
