Lawrence Jenkins Sr, 86, of Georgetown, formerly of Muncie, IL, passed away at 6:16am, Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Gardenview Manor Nursing Home, Danville. He was born on June 4, 1931, in Muncie, IL, the son of Joseph Silas and Ettis {Musson} Jenkins. He was united in marriage to Rose Wallace on December 31, 1956, in Danville, until her passing on October 7, 2014. He is survived by: his children, Pete (Cathy) Jenkins of Georgetown, Tammy (Pat) Longest of Hoopeston, Dawn Jenkins of Georgetown, Gwen (Bill) Burk of Hoopeston, & Billy (Joy) Barrett of Tilton; his eleven grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; his brother, David Jenkins of Muncie, IL; and his sisters, Ruth Downing of Rantoul & Nora Crook of Rantoul. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his brother, William; and his sister, Ann. Lawrence was a member of the Union Labor out of Local #703 for 44 years. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW. In his spare time, Lawrence enjoyed going hunting and fishing, as well as mushroom hunting and gardening. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff at Gardenview Manor for their excellent care. A Memorial Service to celebrate Lawrence's life will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Olivet Church of the Nazarene, 5054 Olivet Rd, Georgetown, with Pastor James Blue officiating. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West Street, Georgetown. Memorial donations may be given in his name to Gardenview Manor Code Love Fund.
