Lawrence A. Wells

Lawrence A. Wells, husband, father of five, and Pa Pa to sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild, passed away November 1, 2005 in Tucson, Arizona. Larry, as he was known by his Danville and Tucson friends, was born June 8, 1926, in Cabery, Illinois moving later to Kankakee, Illinois. He was one of thirteen children to Merritt and Laurena Jensen Wells and was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Everett, Florence, Jesse, Ray, Roy, Helen, and Dale. He is survived by siblings Faye, Fern, Johnny, Grace, and his twin brother, Lloyd (Jake). At seventeen he joined the Navy and served with the USS Shelby. He was always proud of his service to his country during World War II and how five brothers from his family all served at the same time. After the war, he returned to Kankakee and worked at David Bradley Factory. In 1951 he married his bride of fifty-four years, June Delores Brumitt. In 1953 he moved from Kankakee to Danville, where he and his business partner and special friend, Roger Nourie, began South Danville T.V. Sales and Service which stayed in operation for nearly fifty years. Dad was proud of his humble background, his experiences, travels, business successes, his friends and his family. He was what you call a self educated man with meager beginnings, but much heart and ambition. He genuinely loved meeting new people and enjoying their company. Mom said he never knew a stranger. He enjoyed playing euchre with friends and his siblings, watching a good show on TV, agonizing with the Cubs and playing a round of golf. He even had a couple of holes-in-one. Our father was a good man who when we, as children, asked what he wanted for his birthday, he would answer, A hug and a kiss or Just be nice to your mother. He was also a fun-loving man who enjoyed telling a funny story or writing a funny note on the bottom of our feet, as children, having us run into the kitchen to show our mom. But what gives our family the most joy is knowing that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and is in the presence of the Lord. Please join us and our mother for a celebration of our fathers life. Daughters: Lutitia Tish (Russell) Mc Millan, Rhonda (Gregory) Trapkus, Brenda (Jim) Britton, Tammy (Brian) Cratz and son, Larry D. Wells (Stacy). Grandchildren: Adam, Heather, Greer, Wells, Dane, Blair, Shawna, Mekenzie, Clint, Justin, Erik, Charlton, Matthew, Daniel, Rachel, Hannah, and great-granddaughter, Saddie.
