LaVonne Chrisinger Trahan, 86, of Georgetown passed away at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville on April 17, 2021. She was born September 20, 1934 in Black River Falls, Wisconsin the daughter of Clara and Schulyer Chrisinger. They preceded her in death.
LaVonne graduated from high school as the Salutatorian in 1952. She then attended Rockford College graduating in 1956 and continued her education at University of Iowa obtaining her masters degree in 1958. It was there in her graduate program at the University of Iowa that she met P. Jestin and the two married in May of 1958. They spent 62 wonderful years together. He survives.
Also surviving LaVonne are her son Raoul and his wife Lynette Trahan, and grandson Paul Marius Trahan; her daughter Jestine Pierce and granddaughter Paulette Pierce; and her brother Gene Chrisinger.
LaVonne taught at Westville and Chrisman High Schools. Her love for teaching went beyond the classroom as she not only tutored home-bound students, but also was a recruiter for foreign students institute studies. She and Jestin spent quite a few summers in Europe with the numerous study programs. Thousands of students were able to study abroad due to their work; LaVonne moved the world.
She was also a devoted member of Bethel Lutheran Church. She was a master cook and liked preserving the different foods from her own garden to enjoy later in the year. She was also an avid reader.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 11:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville. Pastor Ed Stone will officiate. She will be placed to rest at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be in her name to the Bethel Lutheran Church.
