Lavona Kay Hance (Lawson) of Danville, Illinois passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022, peacefully at home in her sleep at 85 years old.

Lavona was born February 20, 1937 in Covington, Indiana, son of Oren Lawson and Juanita (Chambers) Lawson. She married David Clark Hance (deceased December 8, 2008) on August 11, 1956 at West Liberty Church of Christ in Covington, Indiana.

She is survived by her three children Douglas (Susan Mathews) of Champaign, Illinois; Jeffery Hance (Maria Sixtos) of Hallettsville, Texas; and Brian Hance of Oak Park, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Jacque Besaw) Hance; Kristina (Chris Wasson) Hance-Wasson; Jennifer (Joe Pollard) Hance-Pollard; Brandi (Jorge Valencia) Hance-Valencia; Morgan Hance; Matthew (Sarah Davis) Hance, and Amanda Hance; and two step-grandchildren, Amy Excel-Bailey and Christopher Gran; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a brother Gerald Lawson; brother-in-law Mark (Donna Jett) Hance; and several nieces and nephews. Donnie Davis of Danville, Illinois was her boyfriend for the last several years.

Lavona was a 1955 graduate of Perrysville Indiana High School. She was a dedicated daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who spent the majority of her life raising her family and being supportive of her grand and great-grandchildren in many ways.

She loved country music, dancing, singing, reading, flowers, and crossword puzzles. Lavona had a light-hearted and caring nature and a sense of humor that brought laugher to many.

She served as an instructor of fitness classes for the Silver Sneakers senior program at the Danville YMCA for many years and just retired from that in 2019. She worshiped at the Cornerstone Christian Church.

A brief celebration for Lavonas family and closest friends will be held at Cornerstone Christian Church in Danville, Illinois on Tuesday, July 26 at 11:00AM CT. Her cremated remains will be laid to rest alongside her husbands at Sunset Memorial Park in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you enjoy flowers and your fond memories at your own home to keep Lavona close to your heart.
