LaVerne M. Rollins, 92, of Champaign passed away at 9:56 PM on Saturday November 26, 2011 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She had resided for the last 33 years at Round Barn Manor in Champaign. LaVerne was born on January 4, 1919 in Champaign the daughter of Otis and Cora (Tanner) Brown. She married Lawrence W. Rollins in Covington Indiana on June 29, 1939. He preceded her in death on December 31, 1948. She is survived by one daughter- E. Pauline (Earnest) Chapman of Columbia IL, two sisters- Virginia G. Hatfield of Champaign and Freda E. (Ed) Walter of Danville, one sister-in-law- Elzada Brown of Westville, three grandchildren- Mark A. Chapman of Katy Texas, Darren K. Chapman of Oakland California and Ceceilia L. (Patrick) Smith of Cheyenne Wyoming, two great-grandchildren- Christina and Nicholas Smith both of Cheyenne Wyoming. She leaves numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son-William Lawrence Rollins, one sister- M. Louise Tribbey, brothers- William Elwood Brown, Earl Eugene Brown and Leland Wayne Brown. LaVerne attended Rankin High School. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Champaign for many years. Life-long Chicago Cubs fan. Mrs. Rollins worked at a variety of jobs including receptionist/bookkeeper much of that time. She also worked in the offices of the Illinois Division of Unemployment and Girl Scouts through the Seniors in Community Service Program of the Urban League. Her many friends enjoyed her quick wit and sense of humor. A Celebration of LaVerne's Life will be held on Thursday December 1, 2011 from 5-7 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Funeral services will be held on Friday December 2, 2011 at 2 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Phillips officiating. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park following the service. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made in LaVerne's name to the First Christian Church, 3601 S. Staley Road in Champaign.
