(Minnie) Lauretta M.(Schmit) Walker of Danville was born April 12,1934 to Jacob and Martha (Klaudt) Schmit in Steinhauer, Nebraska, died Sunday April 18, 2004 at 1:00 a.m. at her home after a short illness. She had married Joseph F. Walker Jr. on June 30, 1951 in Danville he preceded her in death four weeks prior on March 20,2004. Surviving are four children- one son; David Walker of Danville, Three daughters; Linda (Michael) Weiss of Sabetha, KS, Janet (Tom) Myers of Danville, and Laura (Michael) Hutchison of Covington, IN.; two brothers- Francis (Norma) Schmit and Wilhelm "Willie" (Sandy) Schmit both of Danville, two sisters Dorothy (Louis) Wilson and Faye (Don) Camp both of Paris; two half-brothers Ronald and Philip and one half-sister, Patricia; eight grandchildren Michele (William) Ward of Nebraska, Brandy (Colten) Chadwick of Nebraska, Chad Cooper of Danville, Eric Cooper and (Teresa Camareno) of Danville, Randy (Tracie) Phelps of Danville, Kevin Phelps of Westville, and Adam and Ryan Hutchison of Covington IN, as well as two step-grandchildren; John Myers of Hoopeston, and James (Melissa ) Myers of also of Hoopeston also twelve great-grandchildren. Lauretta also had many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Lauretta started working at the age of 14 at the Y.W.C.A. serving meals. She also worked at the Dutchess Restaurant, P&G Stamp Factory and finally retired in 1981 from ATI (formerly Continental Filling) after 22 years when the business closed. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville. In her early years, she enjoyed roller-skating, where she met her husband. Her family was very important to her and loved spending time with the grand and great-grand kids, and was always planning family get-togethers. She loved cooking and there was always plenty of food for anyone who might stop by for a visit. Lauretta had many dear close friends whom she loved visiting and going places with. Lauretta had a "green thumb" and enjoyed working outside with her flowers. She was a loving and caring person and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
