Lauren Gene E. Carpenter, 74, of Tilton, passed away at 6:20am, Thursday, August 20, 2009, at VA Illiana Health Care System of Danville. He was born on July 18, 1935, the son of John Lauren and Lena (McCullough) Carpenter in Danville, IL. He is survived by: his son, James Aaron Carpenter of Noblesville, IN; his sisters, Patricia (Steven) Johnson of Danville and Joann (Mike) Schingel of Tilton, IL; several nieces & nephews, Carrie Gulick of Danville, Gerald Miller of Orlando, FL, Mike (Susan) Scott of Georgetown, John (Julie) Scott of Westville, Lisa Ellery of Georgetown, Aymee McCay of Jacksonville, FL, & Michael T. Schingel; and many great nieces & nephews; and special friends, Peggy Adair of Tilton, Duddy Tranchant of Westville, as well as, Ken & Julie Mowery of Tilton. Gene was preceded in death by: his parents and two sons, Sean & Shane. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville and also at Roudebush VA in Indianapolis, IN. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post #51 of Westville. He attended St. Marys Church in Westville. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, sports, and watching Westerns on TV. He was a gambler at heart. A celebration of Genes life will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, August 24, 2009, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville, with Sister Jean Patrice Schingel O.P. officiating. Visitation will be 12:30pm to 2:00pm on Monday before the service. Entombment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Danville. Memorial donations may be given in Genes name to VA Palliative Care Unit
