Laura Mae Kovanic

Laura Mae Kovanic, age 88 of Westville, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 3:50 PM at Presence USMC in Danville. She was born November 13, 1927 in Danville the daughter of David and Violet (Spicer) Jenkins. She married Thomas Stephen Kovanic on June 23, 1951 in San Marcos, TX. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1996. Surviving are her daughters, Paula (Brian) Renfroe of Westville and Nancy Kovanic of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Andy Renfroe of Westville, Tom Grimes of Lafayette, IN, and Emily Renfroe of Westville; as well as many other friends and relatives who loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, and sister, Juanita Spezia. Laura worked at General Electric as an administrative assistant until 1956. While her daughters were in school she enjoyed volunteering as a substitute teacher, librarian, office assistant, or wherever needed at St. Mary's Catholic School. Laura was a member of the Westville American Legion, Turning Pointe church in Evansville, IN, and past member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westville. The most important thing in life to Laura was her family. She truly lived her life for them. She enjoyed to read, do crossword puzzles, and going shopping. She enjoyed watching John Wayne Westerns and yelling out the answers (before anyone else could) to the puzzles on Wheel-of-Fortune, her favorite game show. Private family services will be held for Laura with the assistance of Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel in Westville. Memorial donations can be made in Laura's name to the Westville Depot.
