Laura M. Lomax, 92, of Chrisman (formerly of Oakwood), died February 12, 2026, at OSF Hospital, Danville.
Laura was born on August 2, 1933, to W. Glenn and Hazel Myers in Fithian, IL, and grew up on the family dairy farm. She attended Fithian grade school and Oakwood HS. Laura married Charles A. Lomax in 1950; they were married for over 58 years. They made their home outside of Kickapoo Park in rural Oakwood, where she was an avid gardener, seamstress and homemaker.
She was very devoted to her husband and family. While raising a family, she returned to school and earned her bachelor’s degree at University of Illinois, graduating with high honors. She was a substitute elementary school teacher.
Laura and Charles were members of the Oakwood United Methodist church, where they were lay speakers and members of the bell and vocal choirs. They were also members of the Audubon Society and the Korean War Vets. Charles A. Lomax preceded her in death in 2009.
Laura and Charles had six children, Sue (deceased), Janet, Charles D. (deceased), Linda, Todd and Laurie. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Oakwood United Methodist Church, Oakwood, Illinois 200 N Oakwood Street, Oakwood, IL 61858. Pastors Trevor Oetting and Patti Wise will co-officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Oakwood, IL. Visitation will be held from 9-10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at the church in Oakwood.
Memorial donations may be made in Laura’s memory to the Oakwood United Methodist Church in Oakwood, IL.
Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Oakwood, Illinois is assisting the family with arrangements.
