Laura LaVoyenne Olmstead (Hays) long term resident of the Bismarck area, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday Morning, October 4, 2006 with her children at her bedside after a brief illness. She was born October 27, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Laura Settle Hays and Wilbur G. Hays. She was married to Lloyd J. Olmstead on February 12, 1944: he preceded her in death in November of 1997. Survivors include her brother Richard (Martha) hays of Indianapolis, one brother-in-law, Robert (Doris) Olmstead of Veedersburg, IN, one sister-in-law, Nancy Minzey, of Bellflower, CA and three sons: Marion of Myrtle Beach, SC, Dale (Barb) of Buda, TX, Luke (Jan) of Loda, IL, and one daughter, Olivia Humphreys of Danville: twelve grandchildren, Alan (Tami) Olmstead of Round Rock, TX, Jodi (Chris) of Tredway, TX, Tara (Eric) Johnson of Bismarck and Laura Humphreys of Jacksonville, IL, Mike (Jackie) Wolf of Bell Plaines, IA, Marcia Wolf (Oscar) of Nashville, TN, Marla (Bruce) Roth of Mansfield, IL, Darren (Sarah) Wolf of Heyworth, IL, Fritz, Angela, Barbara, and Samantha Olmstead: four great grandchildren; bailey, Keagan, and Mckade Olmstead of Round Rock, TX and Hailey Johnson of Bismarck. She was member of the Bismarck First Church of Christ. Long time chairman of the Missionary committee, helped organize vacation bible school activities for many years, and an active member of the Ladies Circle. She was retired after 25 years with the Bismarck-Henning consolidated school district. She had perfect attendance for 51 years and served in various capacities with the Vermilion County Cooperative Extension Service. She was active with the school parents-teacher organization when her children were in school. Hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, and enjoying her grandchildren, great-grandchildrens activities, and accomplishment. A Celebration of Lauras life will be held at 10:00 am October 7, 2006 at The First Church of Christ in Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2-6 pm Friday evening at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Danville, Burial will be at Gundy cemetery in near Bismarck. Memorials may be made to the Bismarck First Church of Christ Missionary Fund.
