Larry D. Stahl

Larry D. Stahl, 82, of Ridge Farm, Illinois, passed away at 12:15 a.m. on February 21, 2025, at the Hawthorne Inn in Danville, Illinois, holding his loving wife’s hand. He was born on September 25, 1942, in Anderson, Indiana, the son of Dale and Dorothy (Biggerstaff) Stahl. Larry was raised in Enfield, Illinois and Ridge Farm, having graduated from Ridge Farm Township High School in 1960. Larry married the love of his life, Peggy Claypool, on June 17, 1962. They were happily married for sixty-two years. In addition to Peggy, Larry is survived by his three children: Anita (Bob) Miller, Glen (Karen) Stahl, and Brian (Heather) Stahl; six grandchildren: Trey Sims, Ashley (Josiah) Lemay, Natalie Stahl, Alex Stahl, Rylee (Bella) Stahl, and Quinn Stahl. Other survivors include: two sisters, Linda Songer and Nancy (Chet) McMullen; one brother, Terry (Becky) Stahl; two brothers-in-law, Don Claypool and Ron (Valerie) Claypool; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Shomo and Wanda (Gary) Farris; one aunt, Pat Stahl; and several wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant grandchildren, and one special granddaughter, Mackenzie Jo Sims.

Larry was known for his strong work ethic. He was employed as a manager at Allerton Supply Company (ASC) for over forty years. He enjoyed serving local farmers, even in retirement, when he continued to work there part-time. Larry briefly served as the Ridge Farm police chief early in his working career.

Larry also had a passion for serving, always volunteering to help at community celebrations and events or lending a hand to those in need. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the Ridge Farm Fire Department for over forty-five years, twenty-three of those as fire chief. Larry proudly retired on July 20, 2000. In addition, Larry served as president of the Ridge Farm Fire Protection District.

Larry and Peggy enjoyed mushroom hunting every spring and were always one of the first couples out in the woods. They traveled to Lake of the Ozarks for vacation in the summer and Las Vegas in the winter. After Larry retired, he and Peggy went on several trips to many states, enjoying sightseeing and many casinos. They were also avid bingo players and could be found in all the local bingo halls. Larry loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, especially Rylee’s volleyball matches all over the state.

The family would like to thank Wanda, Gary, Sherry, Susie, Steve and Pat for the many rides to Hawthorne Inn. A special thank you to all the CNA’s, especially our angel in disguise Shelina, who took great care of Larry for the past several years during his long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
