Danville, IL. Larry Raymond Lawson, 76, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.
He was born January 3, 1947, in Danville, son of the late Glen and Glesna (Groner) Lawson.
He met the love of his life, Toni Deeken, at Garfield Grade School and dated all through high school before getting married on Christmas Eve 1967.
Along with his wife, Larry is survived by a son: Shane Michael Lawson of Danville, IL; and one bonus son: Jason Scott Deeken of Henrietta, Texas; also surviving is one brother and three sisters.
Larry was a graduate of Danville High School and later went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Airforce Strategic Air Command and Military Police. After returning from Turkey and being discharged from the service, Larry went on to sell insurance for State Farm. He later owned and operated Larry R. Lawson Insurance Agency for over ten years. Wanting to spend more time with his family, Larry sold the insurance agency and went on to be a car salesman for Win T Smith Oldsmobile-Cadillac and Royal Buick Pontiac. Larry was very much a "people person." After his time selling cars, he wanted to keep helping and serving others. He volunteered over 500 hours of his time as a "Red Vest" at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville and worked for the Illinois Department of Aging and CRIS Senior Services. He was a 33rd Degree Mason with the Anchor Lodge No. 980, a member of the American Legion Post 210, a member of the Gao Grotto, and a member of Central Christian Church. Larry loved the time he was able to spend with his boys. When he was able, Larry enjoyed taking them to stockcar events to watch their favorite driver Bobby Pierce race. At home, he took great pride in keeping his yard manicured to the point of trimming each and every branch on the bushes by hand. More than anything, Larry enjoyed being a dad and spending time with his family. He cherished all of the memories that he and Shane had on their fishing trips, and he enjoyed all of the conversations he had with Jason on world affairs. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
Per Larrys wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and there will be no services. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion St Danville, IL 61834 is honored to be serving Larrys family.
