Larry Masengale

Larry Masengale, 69, of Rossville, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital. He was born June 20th, 1942 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. Larry married Linda Harden on March 20th, 1963. She survives along with his two daughters, Terri (Pete) White and Brenda (Jim) Weston; three siblings, John (Donna) Masengale, Karen (Sam) Rayfield, Ron (Cindy) Masengale; brother-in-law, Dennis (Sally) Bassett; Five grandchildren, Ross White, Beth Weston, Liam White, Katie Weston, and Luke White; close cousin and friend, Dan Masengale; and many important nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Viona Masengale, his sister, Sharon Bassett, and nephew, Brian Masengale. He spent most of his adult life operating the family farm with his father, Earl and brother, Ron, along with his other brother, John; nephews, and a cast of many friends. Earlier in his life, he also owned Masengale car lot. Larry, or "Pops" as he became known after the birth of his first grandchild, loved above all else spending inordinate amounts of time with his grandchildren. For the past 20 years his primary focus revolved around bringing joy to Ross, Beth, Liam, Katie, and Luke. Outside of his grandchildren, his interested included golf, NASCAR, Saturday evening gospel music, and fretting about the weather. A Celebration of the Life of Larry Masengale has been scheduled for 10:00am on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville with Pastor Kevin Purdy officiating. A visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Rossville Cemetery.
