SAVOY- On March 11, 2015 Larry was called home to be with his Lord and Savior. Larry was born on June 9, 1931 in Robinson Illinois. His parents were Cecil D. Brady and Nellie Adkins Brady. Larry moved to Champaign when he was four. He attended Dr. Howard Grade School, Champaign Jr. High, and then Champaign High School. He was a proud member of the Class of 49. In high school he was a member of the track team, the concert choir, and an octet call the Troubadors. Following graduation, Larry went to Eastern Illinois University, and then joined the US Navy. His basic training was at Great Lakes Naval Base, and from there he went to the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA for Hospital Corps training. Larry graduated as a medical technician. Larry was on active duty for five years, serving on a variety of naval ships. He was an active Reserve for 18 years, and honorably retired in 1973. While stationed in Portsmouth, Larry met the love his life-his wife Marge. She was also stationed at the Naval Hospital, and in the Navy. They married on January 9, 1954 at the Hospital Chapel. They recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. Surviving are his wife Margaret (Marge); sons, David (Pam) Brady of Phoenix, AZ, Mike (Stacy) Brady of Denver, CO, and Sue (Tom) Grey of Champaign, IL. Larry also had 5 grandchildren, Randi (Mike) Burlison, Crystal Brady, Patrick Brady, Ryan (Stephanie) Grey, and Catie Grey; and 5 great- grandchildren. Also surviving is Larrys sister, Barbara (Jack) May, and several nieces and nephews all across the country. Larry owned and operated C-U Cytology service. He was certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and the US Department of Health and Welfare. He serviced many local independent doctors, Christie Clinic, Mercy (Presence) Hospital and Burnham Hospital. Larry was a member of the American Business Club, and joined the Knight of Columbus in 1963. He became a life member in 1993. Larry was an active volunteer in Mercy Hospital Auxiliary for many years serving as treasurer, and President. He continued to volunteer at Presence up until just recently assisting patients and providing information to visitors of the hospital. Larry joined the Champaign Elks in 1969 and served in many roles, achieving the role of Exalted Ruler in 1982. He became the District Deputy and helped manage 9 lodges in East Central Illinois. He really enjoyed the team ritual competitions and traveled all over the country with teams and achieved highest scoring Exalted Ruler in 1992. Larry was an avid Illini fan. He especially enjoyed Illini Basketball, and in January of 2015 he was an honorary bench coach. He loved working with the crew up in the suites at the Illini football games. He and Marge played bridge with the same group of friends for over 57 years, and enjoyed every minute of it. His passion was golf. He loved to be outside with his friends, laughing and enjoying their time together. He played many wonderful golf courses across the country, most recently in Phoenix with his two sons. In August of 2014, he and his wife Marge were selected to make an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit all the war memorials, they both loved their trip together. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larrys honor to the United Way of Champaign County. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 3:00pm-6:00pm at Sunset Funeral Homes Champaign-Urbana Chapel, 710 N. Neil Street, Champaign, IL. A Mass will be held at 10:00am on Monday, March 16, 2015 at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 1303 Lincolnshire Drive, Champaign, IL. Cremation rights will be accorded following services, and burial of cremated remains will be at Grandview Cemetery, Champaign.
