Larry Foster Turner, 78, of Fairmount, IL, passed away at 2:44 p.m., June 17, 2019, at OSF Sacred Heart Healthcare in Danville, IL.
Larry was born in Gary, IN, the son of Otis Lee Turner and Josephine Ferne Reese Turner on May 25, 1941. He was the younger brother of his sisters Ruth Joann (Ken) Fetters and Wilma Joyce (Delbert) Phillips. His family moved to Catlin, IL where he was raised and attended high school.
He first attended Lincoln Christian College and then California State University Fresno and California State University Bakersfield on his way to achieving his Bachelors Degree in Business.
He was married to Judy, his wife of 46 years, during the majority of his military career in the US Navy. He was stationed on diesel submarines, along with submarine tenders and served his country as a hospital corpsman (medic) caring for those soldiers and sailors who needed a gentle, but competent touch. He progressed through the ranks and finished his 23 year military career as HMCS Larry F. Turner.
Surviving family include his wife Judy, his son Mark, his daughter Kim, his son Romnie, his son Zachary and his daughter Jennifer. Along with these children he was grandfather to numerous grandchildren with whom he often played Checkers. They all survive his death.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Joyce, his brother-in-law Delbert, and his brother-in-law Ken.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Officiating will be Pastor Ed Stone. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Danville, IL at a later date. Military honors will be provided during the service and during the burial at the National Cemetery by the Danville American Legion Post 210. He will be remembered as a strong supporter of the USA with a strong love of God as he daily read his Bible to draw himself closer to God who has now brought him home to share heavenly glory.
Memorial gifts in Mr. Turners name will be donated to the Danville Area Community College Foundation for Veterans who wish to carry on with their education.
